French Composer and 2016 Berklee College of Music ‘Magna Cum Laude’ Alumn Gioacchino Marincola Accepts Position at Los Angeles Trailer Music Company, J2 Entertainment
French-born film scoring composer Gioacchino Marincola and Magna Cum Laude graduate of Film and Video Game Scoring at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA recently achieved a new position as a music composer for Los Angeles-based trailer music company J2 Entertainment (Passengers, Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 1, Django Unchained.)
Shortly after graduating from Berklee College of Music in August 2016 and relocating to Los Angeles, CA, Marincola was afforded the opportunity to provide technical support as an intern to popular LA composer Bear McCreary’s company Sparks and Shadows. Gio supported Bear’s team with task such as remapping custom Kontakt instruments and doing score preparations on major television shows such as Agents of Shield, Black Sails, and The Walking Dead. Marincola has worked as a freelance composer for several music libraries such as Velvet Green and Emoto Music, including work for renowned LA-based French composer Eric Neveux.
With his roots in Italy and southern France, Gio was born into a family of musicians. His father is a renowned European Lute player specializing in music from the Renaissance and Baroque era, and his mother sings classical music and Sephardic songs. Even his sister plays violin and sings classical Indian music. Gio was exposed to a large palette of musical styles from a very young age. Gio began playing oboe at the conservatory for thirteen years, and electric guitar in a punk rock band for over ten years, releasing two albums and one EP, and touring in Europe and Asia.
Gio’s passion for composition for visual media started when he was first asked to score a theatrical play in 2011, about the story of “Cinderella”. Later on, he composed the soundtrack for another play, then started composing for short movies. Gio has since earned several credits including independent short films, documentaries, animated films, as well as live plays and an art exhibition. Marincola’s music can vary from full orchestral, to electronic ambient and acoustic minimalistic.
Gio is currently living in Los Angeles, CA and is making extraordinary contributions to the world of musical scoring of film and television.
